Is One Meal More Important Than Others?

By Tom Herrin

When it comes to eating meals, the general rule is that everyone has different likes and dislikes.  For those who were raised on three square meals per day, it is pretty much a habit. It may be the right one or it may be habit only with no real benefits.  Some people start big and finish small while others seem to go the opposite. Learning what is best for each individual may be the key to success in their health.  One thing for sure is that, in most cases, skipping meals can do damage to health that may not be reversible. Determining what kind of breakfast to eat may be a major health issue for many.  The decisions they make may have a tremendous impact on their health. It should be based on sound reasoning as to what they are trying to accomplish. For many, breakfast can be pivotal.

It May Help Control Appetite

What people eat for breakfast can be big in the way of affecting the rest of the day.  Some feel that if they eat a big breakfast, it will be better for them while others feel that it may bog them down and make them feel heavy. The critical points to a good breakfast are to take in foods that serve a purpose.  Foods high in protein and with sufficient fiber can help people to feel full longer. It can help them to avoid falling into the pit of craving carbs that end up making them gain weight. The right breakfast can be extremely valuable in managing weight.

It May Build Stronger Bones

Eating foods that are high in vitamins and minerals at breakfast may be a simple way to satisfy hunger and supply the body with those things that it needs for general performance.  Milk, or milk products, can be a help to build stronger bones. Many people are lacking in things such as calcium and Vitamin D. Taking in these things at the start of the day can assure people that a good supply is available every day.  Many things do not store all that well and need to be replenished on a daily basis.

It May Help Manage Cholesterol

There are all kinds of things that may be included in breakfast.  Whether we eat one with eggs and sausage or pancakes can make a difference in how we perform throughout the day.  It should serve a purpose. While I eat an occasional breakfast that is heavy, I generally choose cereals. I am concerned about managing cholesterol effectively.  I also want something that can supply what I need while avoiding something that is difficult to digest. Everyone needs to make their own choice based on their personal health needs.  The important thing is, we all need to eat something to start our day on the right foot.
