4 Ways to Improve Health Every Morning
By Genevieve Cunningham
Keeping a healthy body and mind is crucial for a high quality of life. When our health begins to suffer in any way, we often feel it in our personal outlook and productivity. But sometimes it feels as if staying healthy is a serious chore. Exercise after work, home-cooked meals, and regular check-ups at the doctor … who has time for all of that? While these are probably great goals for the future, there are a few ways to improve health right now that may seem just a bit easier. Take a look at these four simple tips for boosting your health every single morning for a day full of healthy living.
Eat Breakfast
With the fast paced world that we live in, it’s tempting to skip breakfast or swing through the drive-thru. But in all honesty, this is one of the worst ways to start the day! If you want to feel good first thing, eat a breakfast made of real foods in your own home. This kickstarts the metabolism, provides the body with energy, and enhances mental focus for the day ahead.
Drink a Glass of Water
Many people tend to skip water in the mornings. Our brains are simply wired for something else … be it coffee or an energy drink or a caffeinated soda. But water, even just one full glass, can truly make the day better. It begins the process of digestion, so you’ll feel less heavy and sluggish, and it also helps to focus the brain for the tasks of the day.
Stretch
Even if you can’t find the time, energy, or motivation to exercise first thing in the morning, try to make time for a quick stretch. Stretching alleviates aches and pains, loosens the body, and gets it ready for movement and activity. A 10-15 minute stretch may be all it takes to make the body more prepared and less rundown every morning.
Listen to Something Soothing
It’s important to remember mental health in the mornings as well. A great way to start your mental health off on the right foot is by listening to something soothing and motivating. Instead of that background noise from the TV, turn off the TV and turn on some music that really calms you down and makes you feel good. This will help you start the day off in a mellow state, which can lower blood pressure, enhance focus, and leave you feeling just a little better.
Improving health doesn’t have to be a long complicated process. While it is certainly a journey that should be taken for an entire lifetime, small enhancements can make a big difference. Use these tips as a guide, and make today just a little better than yesterday.
