Start Your Year Right With These Tips
By Brandi Goodman
Getting off to a good start can help make your year. It's far better than the alternative. With some tips in mind, you can start your year right and help yourself continue to have a solid year of health and happiness.
Focus on the Positive
Don't spend your year dwelling on all the negative. Instead, focus on the positive aspects of your life. Even just one small ounce of happiness that occurs during your day should be remembered and cherished. Maybe you had a great cup of coffee that tasted divine. Perhaps someone commented about the cute blouse you're wearing. Whatever it may be, savor the moment and remember that life isn't all bad.
Make Small Changes for the Better
Making a big change all at once can be scary -- and hard to stick with for long. If you vow to make small changes for the betterment of your health, you'll be more likely to continue with it. Drink an extra cup per day of water until you're drinking the recommended amount. Add a vegetable to your dinner plate until you've acquired their taste and can eat them for a snack. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. There's lots you can do to boost your physical and mental health starting with simple changes.
Smile!
Even if you don't quite feel like it, giving a smile can help to boost your mental health. Try to smile when you can, be it in the mirror, at a stranger, or when picking up your morning meal on the go. You may be faking it in the beginning, but after receiving smiles back you may just start smiling for real without even realizing it.
Tell Yourself Positive Affirmations
You need to be positive about yourself, too. Speak aloud to yourself and offer positive affirmations. Tell yourself this is going to be your year. Say you're strong and resilient. Say, "I can do this!" Consistently speaking positivity unto yourself can help you start to feel as though it's true and you really are all the things you say. Never put yourself down or speak negativity.
Starting the year off on the right foot can help set the precedence for the entire duration. Do what you can to stay positive, happy, and healthy this year and maintain your well-being. You should be able to end your year the same if you follow through with this resolution.
