4 Tips for Back Pain Relief
By Donna Stark
Your back pain may be constant or it may come and go. It may be severe enough to limit your mobility or just bad enough to make things uncomfortable. But no matter how it presents itself, there are several things you can do to manage and lessen the pain. Take a look at the following suggestions from your local chiropractors at The Joint Chiropractic. These lifestyle tips are sure to help you feel better on both your good and bad days of the week.
Standing
If your job requires you to stand for an extended period of time or if you are heading to an activity that requires you to be on your feet, make sure you are wearing the appropriate footwear. Choose a pair of shoes that offer plenty of arch support, comfort, and traction. In addition to the right footwear, make sure you are also paying attention to your posture by keeping your shoulders pulled back and your head above your hips.
Sitting
If you are in school or at a desk job, make sure you are getting up every 30 minutes or so to stretch and move around, and make sure you are seated correctly. That means your feet should be flat on the floor, your head should be in a neutral position, and your shoulders should be pulled back. Consider using ergonomically designed furniture and equipment too. They can make a difference.
Lifting
Just because your job doesn't require a lot of lifting, doesn't mean you can't hurt yourself simply by bending over and picking something up from the floor. In fact, it is often those everyday movements that get us into trouble. So, when you are lifting, be mindful of your movements. Squat down next to the object you want to pick up, keep your back straight, hold the object close to your body, and use your leg muscles for power. Try to avoid any awkward twists of your body too.
Stretching
Stretching before any type of physical activity is a great way to avoid getting hurt. Take your time going through the different stretches and slowly work your way into each pose. Hold the pose steady and try not to bounce while in it. Stretching is also a great way to start your day.
