Eat These Foods to Boost Weight Loss
By Rachel Carver
When we think about weight loss, we often tell ourselves to make certain foods off-limits. However, removing some foods from our diet might actually slow down our progress. Focusing on the quality and not the quantity of what we eat can keep you satisfied longer and keep the weight off after you lose it.
Incorporate nutritious foods such as the ones below to keep you full and maintain your weight loss.
Dairy Products With More Fat
You might think you need to drink skim milk and eat low-fat yogurt. However, opting for the skim milk will not keep you full as long as regular milk. Skim milk lacks some essential fatty acids -- the part of food that fills you up faster and keeps hunger away longer. Many fat-free items have added sugar and refined carbohydrates, which can be worse on your overall health than fat. Make dairy a part of your overall diet. Skip the ice cream treats and flavored yogurts with high amounts of sugar.
Nut Butters
A 2013 Harvard School of Public Health study found that people who ate nuts on a regular basis weighed less than people who did not. Nuts were also found to reduce heart disease deaths by 29 percent. Two table spoons of peanut butter contain eight grams of protein and two grams of fiber. Nuts and nut butters can help you lose weight and keep it off. Reach for snacks such as almonds or peanut butter and celery.
Pasta
Pasta takes longer to spike your blood sugar than white bread -- which puts it lower on the glycemic index. Carbohydrates low on the glycemic index digest slower and give you a steady fuel source to support energy levels. We usually pear pasta with lean proteins and vegetables, which makes this a great meal for weight loss. Choose whole grain pasta and skip the creamy sauces.
Whole Eggs
Full of protein and healthy fats, whole eggs are great as snacks or part of a meal. With just 70 calories, consuming eggs in moderation -- even with the yolks -- can help you lose weight. Boil eggs for a quick breakfast in the morning instead of reaching for a doughnut.
