Beach Life is the Best Life
By Virginia Laird
I had the wonderful opportunity of living, for a short period of time, in the Fort Lauderdale area. Growing up in Texas, I had never seen any oceanfront as beautiful as Fort Lauderdale Beach. It was amazing, exactly what you see in the movies with white sand and a crystal blue sea. I had always wanted to live by the beach, so I took full advantage of soaking up the beach lifestyle while I was there. In addition to enjoying the warmth of the sun, and the peaceful sound of the rolling ocean, there are several healthy things about including the beach in your life.
Walking is Great for your Health
Walking is one of the best low stress exercises in which you can participate. A nice quiet walk can help your body relax, freeing your mind from the clutter of the daily grind. Before you know it, you'll have probably walked more than a mile while enjoying the freedom of the open beach. You have accomplished two things on this walk, much needed exercise and experiencing a sense of calm and peace -- not to mention the beautiful ocean view that stretches along your entire path.
Soaking Up Some Vitamin D is Essential
Vitamin D is vital to your body, and if you're not taking a supplement, you have to get it from from the sun. Many people don’t take the time to soak it up and therefore are deficient in this much-needed vitamin. A simple visit to the beach will guarantee your daily recommended dose of Vitamin D. If you've ever seen a commercial for milk, you probably know Vitamin D promotes bone growth and prevents the loss of calcium. While soaking up the precious Vitamin D, be sure to do so wisely, as too much sun can cause sunburns and increase your chances of skin cancer. Bring sunscreen to the beach and don’t go out unprotected during the high risk sunburn hours centered around noon.
Beach Waves are Therapeutic
Bring your comfy lounger and an umbrella and tune in the rolling sounds of the crashing waves. This sound can help you get in a nice deep sleep to experience a nap like no other. There is nothing quite like it. Listening to the crashing waves can help your body relax. A good beach nap can rejuvenate your body and be therapeutic to an exhausted mind.
Don’t think you have time to get the much needed relaxation of a beach visit? You can still find therapeutic benefits from a visit to The Joint Chiropractic. Together you and your chiropractor will determine a health and wellness plan tailored just for you and your needs. A great chiropractic visit can be just as therapeutic and rejuvenating as a long nap on the beach.
