There May Be a Spice to Support Your Health
By Tom Herrin
When we consider things to do for our health, we may have a lot of options. For many years, people all over have used things that some may consider superstition. While this may be the case for some, it is not the case for all. Some of those things are different spices. A few of them may seem to be tried and proven, and some may seem like a pretty far stretch of the imagination. Even though they don't all work every time, many of them have a good enough history to be worth trying. A few are listed below.
Cinnamon May Work for Managing Blood Sugar
Diabetes seems to be on the rise everywhere. Finding ways to head off problems with it before they get out of control may be useful. Apparently, cinnamon can be useful in lowering blood sugar. It is believed to slow down the breakdown of carbs and improve insulin sensitivity as well. This can be a big help in supporting health. Not only that, but cinnamon also seems to help lower cholesterol and fight inflammation. That is a lot of power packed in a small package. It can be purchased in capsules, so you won't have to try to choke down a spoonful of that dry powder.
Sage May Improve Brain Function
The idea of sage having a big role in boosting health is a little surprising to me. I consume plenty of sage during some holidays, but I never thought of it as necessarily healthy. According to some studies, sage may be able to play a role in improving brain function, especially in those with Alzheimer's. In one study of those with mild to moderate forms of this disease, brain function actually improved. Even though the study was small, it provides some good indication of the possible benefits of using this spice.
Ginger May Treat Nausea
For me, there is nothing much worse than feeling like I am about to have a sick stomach. I will go to great lengths to avoid it. It seems that ginger may be effective against this. Of course, I shouldn't wonder because ginger ale has long been used by some to settle upset stomachs, but many of us thought of it as a soda and didn't consider the ginger content. If you are looking for something to try, this may be the one for you.
