What Women Should Remember About Getting Fit
By Genevieve Cunningham
Losing weight is a hard task. It's time consuming and frustrating and very individual. And even though we like to say and believe that men and women are completely equal (especially when it comes to fitness), the harsh truth is that this task is often more difficult for women. Based solely on their biological composition, men may have a slight edge. But that doesn't mean that women should give up! If you’re a woman on a weight loss journey, take a look at these things to keep in mind that might change your entire perspective on getting fit.
You Might Not Lose as Fast as Men
Men and women do not usually lose at the same pace. And this can be very frustrating for many. But if you know this going into the journey, it makes it a lot easier. It's also important to remember that the fat will come off, but you may have to be willing to be more patient. Stick with it and ignore the pace of men's weight loss. Focus only on your own and keep in mind that everybody, regardless of gender, loses at their own pace.
Women Have More Fat
How much are you trying to lose? Though you probably have a rough idea, the more specific, the better. And this includes your body fat percentage. But before you set any major goals, remind yourself that women have more fat. They’re supposed to. To be healthy, a woman will have around 20 percent body fat. Unless you’re training specifically for something different, striving to get much lower than this will only leave you frustrated and potentially unhealthy.
Building Muscle Matters
Too many women shy away from lifting weights and building muscle. They’re afraid of getting too big and bulky. But know this: Unless you’re training to be a bodybuilder, you won't look like one. So stop worrying! Lifting weights can help you burn fat faster and sculpt out some definition. Don't shy away, and you will probably be much happier with the results.
Women are really hard on themselves. They often strive for perfection where none is possible. If you’re on a weight loss journey, keep these important things in mind. You may find that with a slightly different perspective, success is actually just around the corner.
