Best and Worst Breakfast Meals

By Stepy Kamei

Getting your morning started off on the right foot is crucial if you want to be alert and productive throughout the rest of the day. You probably know that one of the most important things you can do to start your day off right is to eat a nutritious breakfast. However, with all the options that are available to you, it can be difficult to determine what breakfast items are truly the best for your overall health and well-being. Fortunately, there is plenty of helpful information out there to guide you in making the right choices for your diet while avoiding the less healthy options. Keep on reading to learn more about the best and worst breakfast meals for your everyday diet.

Unhealthy Breakfast Options

Poor breakfast choices will often leave you feeling fatigue, heavy, and ironically even hungry. It may make getting through the day a much more difficult task since you didn't get the nutrients you needed to thrive right off the bat.

Highly processed and refined foods, such as breakfast cereals, muffins, sugary pastries, and white bread toast are all mostly unhealthy choices to start your day. This is because these foods are often stripped of most of their nutrients, and filled with unhealthy amounts of sugar, fat, and salt.

Healthy Breakfast Choices

On the other hand, foods which are minimally processed and fresh tend to provide loads of crucial vitamins, minerals, and nutrients your body needs in order to thrive. Whole grain oatmeal, eggs, fresh fruit, and whole wheat bread with unsalted nut butter are all excellent options for your morning meal. These foods are low in unnecessary and unhealthy additives such as sugar and sodium, yet contain plenty of vital and essential nutrients, such as protein, iron, calcium, fiber and unsaturated fat. These nutrients keep you feeling fuller for longer, meaning you're less likely to overeat or indulge in unhealthy snacks later on in the day.

If you like to pair your breakfast with a beverage, consider a cup of green or black tea as an alternative to coffee. Tea contains loads of antioxidants and vitamins, in addition to providing a boost of caffeine without the jitters and anxiety that coffee can often bring.

Generally speaking, it's best to avoid foods which are highly processed and tend to contain little to no nutritional value. Meanwhile, choosing foods which are minimally processed and contain fresh ingredients will leave you feeling full, alert, and ready to take on the day ahead.
