How to Detox and De-Stress with Fitness
By Sandy Schroeder
Wherever you are, at home, at work, or doing a little of both, the day will feel better if you keep your body moving.
You may use short bursts, or a long stretch after work, but either way, exercise will make a difference in everything else that happens. Your mind and body will work better when fitness is part of the equation. If you doubt it, do three days with exercise, and then see what one feels like without it. For me, it’s all of the difference in mood, energy and lightheartedness. See what it does for you.
Huffington Post weighed in on the value of fitness, suggesting you take your pick and get moving. Running, dancing, yoga, or slow and fast walking could be the main focus that refreshes the body shedding toxins and stress.
Fitness guru Jan Bruce says exercise helps the body detoxify as it removes waste from the blood. The body’s lymphatic system is the body’s drainage channel, but it needs regular exercise with muscle contractions and breathing to make it work. Stress is also siphoned off with regular exercise that can calm the mind and strengthen the body.
Make the most of it with these steps.
Be mindful as you exercise - Tune into your body as you are stretching your muscles and expanding your lungs. Concentrating on the physical process can also relax your mind and lift your spirits.
Pick something that makes you grin - Some people love to run. Others opt to dance or go to a barre ballet studio. Parents often opt to keep the kids active too as they walk or bike to the park. Some people are addicted to yoga. Others would rather play volleyball on the sand. Whatever you pick just make sure it feels good.
Pace yourself as you move - Shoot for a 70 percent level of performance, rather than a super push that flattens you. When you dial it in, it will energize you.
Use walking as a mainstay - The complete flexibility of walking works when you run out of time for other things. Keep your sneakers in the car or by the door to get a few steps in wherever you are.
Track your steps - Using a pedometer may help you reach a goal of 10,000 steps a day.
Fight sitting with fitness - If you are one of the many who sit at home and at work, make a point of moving for 10 minutes every hour and add up to 80 minutes a day to improve metabolism, cholesterol and blood sugar levels.
