3 Great Dairy Options for Milk Haters

By Genevieve Cunningham

Though dairy tends to be one of the items that stays on the fence in the world of healthy eating, there’s no denying that it can bring some healthy benefits to your body. Dairy gives you healthy doses of calcium, Vitamin D, potassium, and even a bit of protein. This means stronger bones and teeth, more stable moods, and an overall boost in general health. When most of us think of dairy, we think of milk. But, what about those who don’t like a big cold glass of milk? Some people simply aren’t keen on the flavor or overall sensation of regular milk. Take a look at these three other options for getting the benefits of eating dairy without turning to milk.

If you can’t stand milk, try adding a bit of yogurt to your regular menu. This makes an excellent addition to breakfast or can be used as a snack later in the day. It also comes in multiple flavors so that you are more likely to find something you like. If you’re not the biggest yogurt fan either, try mixing it up with fruits and ice for a delicious morning smoothie.

There are very few people who hate cheese! This is one of those foods that almost everyone loves, probably to a fault. Cheddar, pepper jack, mozzarella, or cottage cheese … take your pick! And it can be added to so many dishes, it’s easy to get enough in your diet. Cheese can be an excellent source of calcium when eaten in moderation. Just make sure that you measure your serving. Too much cheese might be high in calories, leading to weight gain in the long run.

This might be controversial since cream tends to be high in calories, but it’s a great choice for sneaking in dairy when this food group isn’t your favorite. Cream can be added to just about anything. Potatoes, casseroles, and even desserts have enjoyed the occasional dollop of cream. Adding this will make your food appear heavier, slightly creamy, and thicker. Just be sparing with your serving size, and you can enjoy this dairy product without packing on the pounds.

If you don’t like the taste of milk, you can still get enough dairy in your diet. Just try these other options to take the place of traditional milk. Add them all or change it up from time to time to get the most benefit of dairy in your daily diet.
