How Changing Your Attitude Can Change Your Health

By Genevieve Cunningham

You’ve decided to change your health, and you’re ready to throw yourself into a new workout with a brand new meal plan. This is a powerful and worthy goal for anyone, but after the initial motivation wears off, it’s a tough goal to keep. Why? While you might think that your lack of success is because you’ve chosen the wrong diet plan or exercise routine, it usually boils down to your attitude. Our minds have a much larger impact on our health than we realize, and when we don’t keep our attitude in check, our health suffers. Take a look at these ways in which changing your attitude can change your health for the better, and how to make it happen.

Get Excited about Healthier Foods

Deprivation is one of the quickest ways to binge out on the forbidden fruit. What does this mean? It basically means that if you tell yourself that you can’t have something specific … such as donuts or chocolate milk … it’s the first thing that your mind is going to crave. Instead of depriving yourself of certain foods, try getting excited about something healthy. Find a fruit or a veggie that is delicious as a breakfast item, and get really excited about trying it out and making it fresh every day. This gets your brain off of the donuts and focused on what matters, which is the healthy side of the coin.

Find a Workout You Actually Want to Try

Working out can feel like a bit of a chore sometimes, especially if you’re not already in work out mode. And imagining yourself running a mile (when you hate running), joining that aerobics class (when you can’t stand upbeat music with your exercise), or lifting weights (when you hate the thought of pumping iron) will only make it harder. Don’t do that to yourself. Instead of dreading the gym, find an exercise that you actually enjoy … or get excited about broadening your workout horizon. The more excited you are about the process, the more likely you are to go through with it and make it stick.

Don’t Consider Yourself on a Diet

If someone asks about your well deserved and noticeable weight loss, don’t ever tell them you’re on a diet. Why? Because you shouldn’t be. A diet implies that there is an end date to your current lifestyle, and if you’re doing it right, there should be no such end date. Your healthy choices should be part of a new lifestyle; they should be part of a new you! Instead, tell people that you decided to take your health seriously, or that you made some changes in your life and they’re starting to show. This helps you stay focused on the long-term and will keep the success rolling in.

People tend to underestimate the power of the mind. Whatever you think about, you bring about. So why not think about great health and a fit body? The more positive you keep your thoughts, the easier this lifestyle change will be, and the more change you’ll see in your body and life as a result.
