Getting More Sleep: Here's How to Do It
By Genevieve Cunningham
There are a few things about adulthood that new adults seem to find surprising. For some, it's the surprises that await in the mailbox. You know, bills. For others, it's the pain and the cracking joints that take them by surprise. But if there's one thing that everyone seems to already understand about adulthood, it's that fatigue is just a part of it. When you're an adult, you're always tired, right? While fatigue definitely comes with the adulthood territory, it is possible to get more sleep and feel your best. If you're ready to change your health and life for the better with more sleep, take a look at these tips.
Get Strict
Sometimes the only way to really make changes in your life is to get strict with yourself. You have to set yourself a bedtime and actually stick with it. You have to put down your phone, stop scrolling, and close your eyes. You have to skip Netflix and attempt sleep instead. Though it's not fun in the beginning, getting strict with yourself is one of the best ways to create habits that last.
Get Help
If you've tried getting more sleep on your own and haven't been successful, maybe it's time to ask for help. Talk to a doctor about your options. Ask for some tips to include in your bedtime routine. Ask for foods or drinks, or if all else fails, for medications. But sometimes you just have to reach out. Don't be afraid to seek assistance so that you can make significant changes that actually work and help you sleep.
Get a Life
If you're not doing much of anything all day long, it's time to get a life. A lack of stimulating activity can definitely cause problems with sleep. Your brain and body need activity in order to feel tired at the day's end. You need more than waking, working, and sleeping. Get a hobby, get some friends, get moving. You may be surprised at how much this affects your sleep and improves your quality of life, too.
If you can't currently get enough sleep, you're not doomed. It's absolutely possible to get more sleep. Use these tips to get more rest, and you'll be feeling healthier than ever before you know it.
