Boosting Brain Health With 6 Tips

By Brandi Goodman

Alzheimer's and Brain Awareness Month takes place each year in June. As we age, our brain health begins to decline. It's important to keep some tips in mind so we can strengthen our memory and our mind.

Use Food to Your Advantage

The right food can play a major role in keeping your mind healthy. You need to eat nutritious snacks and meals that work to fight inflammation, introduce antioxidants, and improve your vitamin levels. Fruits, vegetables, plant proteins, and nuts are some of the best options.

Exercise

You need to bring oxygen to your blood and brain for it to remain healthy and thriving. You can do so through exercise. Make sure you're maintaining a workout routine that helps you boost your oxygen levels and therefore your brain health. Aerobic exercises such as walking, jogging, and swimming are key.

Avoid Alcohol and Tobacco

Smoking cigarettes and drinking alcohol are two habits you should absolutely abstain from. If you currently partake in either, it's wise to wind down on how much you're using and quit as soon as you're able. Both of these things can result in inflammation and toxins that can interfere with your brain health. Not to mention, they alter your thinking and ability to make decisions, which can already be tough when age is wearing on your mind.

Regularly Engage in Brain Activities

Certain activities are beneficial for your brain. Memory games, puzzles, math, and other options should be utilized daily so you can keep your brain healthy and active. You should always strive to learn new things and keep your brain working.

Keep Your Head Protected

Damage to your head can cause cognitive impairment. Do what you can to keep your head protected at all costs. This means wearing a helmet when riding your bike, using headgear when playing rough sports, and avoiding getting hit in the head when you can.

Keep Stress to a Minimum

Stress can have a negative impact on your mind. Do your best to keep stress to a minimum so it doesn't have the ability to interfere with the well-being of your brain. You should find stress relief solutions that work well for you in any situation and employ them as soon as necessary.

Your brain health needs top priority if you have any hope of keeping up with its demands. Regular exercise, brain activities, and proper nutrition are some of the key components that can help your mind stay as young as possible for as long as possible.
