Eat Healthy During Your Busy Work Day

By Paul Rothbart

Eating well is one of the keys to maintaining a healthy weight, avoiding illnesses, and leading a happy and productive life. Productivity often keeps you extremely busy. Time spent working is time that can't be used for choosing and preparing healthy meals. What to do? Despite how it appears, this is not an either/or situation. You can be busy working each day and still eat healthy. Here are some tips.

Do Not Skip Breakfast

Your first instinct may be to skip breakfast to get a jump on the workday. This is a big mistake. By not eating breakfast you are entering the day without the necessary nutrition and energy to perform at your best. It can also cause you to crave food throughout the day. In order to save time, you may end up gorging on unhealthy snacks. Research has linked not eating breakfast with obesity and diabetes. An excellent compromise is to prepare breakfast before bed each night. Make something that you can store and eat on the go. Healthy smoothies are an excellent idea as are homemade granola bars. Hard-boiled eggs are very healthy, store well, and can be eaten quickly. Don't neglect this vital meal.

Drink Water

Hydration is essential to good health and drinking water throughout the day doesn't take much time. You purchase bottled water ahead of time or if you like your tap water, fill and refrigerate some bottles of it. Water fills you up which can help prevent between-meal snacking. You can add a bit of fruit juice for flavor and some nutrition.

Find Healthy Restaurants Near Work

Even busy people tend to go out to lunch. Pass up on the fast food. Locate restaurants near where you work that offer healthy options. Salads are excellent lunches that don't take long to prepare or eat. Wraps filled with lean proteins and vegetables are also nutritious. If you frequently have meetings,  plan a few at lunch. It can make for a pleasant environment and you will be multitasking.

Have Family Dinners

End your workday early enough to enjoy a nice meal with your family. Dinner is an important time for families to not only get nourishment but to bond and connect. This is good for both your physical and mental health. If you don't have a family, you can get together with friends. It's important to balance your life inside of and outside of work.

Earning a living and making your way in the world can be time-consuming. You may have to make some sacrifices, but eating well is not one of them. Follow these tips to consume healthy meals no matter how busy you are.
