Easy Ways to Spend More Time Outside

By Stepy Kamei

If you didn't know it already, here's a great health tip for you -- being outside is good for your health. Numerous studies have shown a direct link between time spent outdoors, and positive impacts on a person's overall sense of health and wellness. To elaborate, healthcare experts have noticed that patients who tend to spend more time outside on a regular basis tend to experience better posture, regulated sleeping and digestive habits, healthy weight loss, and a decreased chance of developing such issues as depression, anxiety, weight gain, and cardiovascular disease. So, what exactly is it about being outside that's so good for our total health and well-being? Well, as any healthcare expert will be happy to tell you, they don't call it the great outdoors for nothing. Start incoporating these simple and easy ways to be outside more often into your daily routine, and you'll probably notice an improvement in how you feel, both physically as well as mentally.

Cultivate a Green Thumb

Many people find keeping up a garden to be an incredibly soothing thing to do. If you have the outdoor space to do so, consider trying your hand at planting, weeding, and cultivating. If you live in an apartment building, or simply don't have access to a yard, take the time to research community gardens in your nieghborhood.

Foster an Artistic Endeavour

If you've always had a bit of a creative streak, consider taking those pursuits to the great outdoors. Grab your camera and take some nature photography. Move your easel outside to paint a landscape. Write the next Great American novel at a cafe with outdoor seating. There's plenty of opportunity for artists to thrive outdoors!

Find a Reason to Take a Walk

Of course, many people like going on walks, but it can be difficult to find the time to fit them in. Maybe it seems like walks are pointless, which is why you avoid them. If that's the case, start finding reasons to walk. Walk to your favorite cafe, a store you like, or to your friend's house. Maybe go on a walk with your friends, family, or dog!

Eat Your Favorite Food (With Your Favorite People)

In that same vein, plan your next get-together with friends in an outdoor setting. Try to set up a weekly or monthly get-together if you can!
