Overcoming the Barriers to Exercise
By Donna Stark
Did your life suddenly become too busy to even think about exercise? Have you lost all your motivation? Did you move from a fair-weathered state to somewhere like the Arctic Circle? At what point in your life did you become so controlled by your excuses that you no longer work out as often as you should? It's true, there can be many different barriers to staying physically active but that doesn't mean you should sit by and let them control your life! Your well-being is too important to let that happen!
Common Barriers to Daily Exercise
Let's try to figure out a couple of solutions to your "lack of exercise" problem so you can start improving the way you feel and get back on the path to optimal health and wellness! Take a look at the suggestions below from your local chiropractors at The Joint Chiropractic.
- Time - Do you feel as if you don't have enough hours in the day to fit in a workout? Why don't you try waking up earlier in the morning or cutting your lunch hour in half? Remember, you only need 30 minutes of moderate exercise every day and it doesn't need to be all at once. A five-minute walk here and some extra steps there really do add up!
- Motivation - If your motivation has been missing and you can't seem to find it, you may need to pull a few tricks out of your sleeve. Invite a family member or friend to exercise with you, join a fitness class at your local gym, or ask a coworker to join you for a walk over lunch. By having others involved, you may end up sticking to your commitments.
- Cost - You're in luck if the cost of a gym membership is the thing prohibiting you from working out because there are many other ways you can stay physically active that won't cost a cent! Walking, running, jogging, yoga in the backyard ... these are just a few examples of inexpensive ways to get your body moving!
- Weather - No matter where you live, the weather will always be a factor because it can be so unpredictable. To keep your exercise groove going, make sure you always have some kind of plan to fall back on. Can you keep some weights or a stationary bike in your home? Is there a mall nearby to walk around in? Or can you invest in some outdoor weather gear? Figuring this out ahead of time will help ensure your fitness routine isn't disrupted.
Overcoming Your Excuses
With the suggestions above, you will find it's really not that difficult to stay physically active every day. Take control of your excuses and figure out a solution before they take control of your overall health and wellness!
