5 Reasons Sugar is Bad for You

By Virginia Laird

Sugar is my favorite food group and has been as long as I can remember. This can lead to a great many problems for my own personal health if I allow it to control my food choices. Although many people know sugar has a great many side effects, it can be difficult to cut it out of the diet altogether. Research has proven sugar is harmful to the body. There is enough research available to suggest a life without sugar is best for the health.

Chances of Developing Cardiovascular Disease is Increased by Sugar

Overconsumption of sugar is a huge factor in people experiencing high blood pressure. As the hormones of the body are affected, so too is the blood stream. It can also cause the heart to struggle.

Kidney Function can be Disrupted by Sugar Consumption

Too much sugar in a person's diet increases the odds of developing a urinary tract infection. These can cause serious discomfort. Along with frequent trips to the bathroom can come stomach cramps, back pain, fever, and headaches. Consuming too much sugar increases the chances of this type of problem by 50 percent, according to research.

Diabetes can be Caused by Too Much Sugar

There is no secret that an increased intake of sugar over a long period of time can play a key role in the development of diabetes. This disease can have serious complications. It is best to learn to reduce or even avoid sugar to help prevent the chances of developing diabetes.

The Liver Can be Damaged by Sugar

Another side effect of too much sugar is damage to the liver. An abundance of sugar can cause the liver to work harder to process it and level out the hormones in the body. An overloaded liver can also cause kidney stones, serious exhaustion, and high blood pressure.

The Immune System Can Temporarily Shut Down with Sugar Consumption

Sugar consumption can harm the immune system. As the body gets worn down and overworked in various functions, the immune system slows as well. This can cause the body to become ill more quickly. Research suggests that as little as one can of soda is enough sugar to slow the immune system for part of the day.

It is important to put your health before your taste buds. Although change can be difficult, it will be well worth decreasing your sugar consumption. Remember: The first week is the most difficult one. Good luck!
