Improving Breathing May Improve Health

By Tom Herrin

In working to have better health, we should consider all of the possibilities.  Fine-tuning our body's functions may be one way to move forward.  Most of us feel that breathing may be one of the most natural things we do.  We generally don't have to learn it as a skill, but there are things that we may be able to do to make it better and/or more efficient.  If we think about it, we may realize the necessity of becoming better at it.  Many individuals have breathing issues.  Some of these can become quite serious.  Finding ways to improve our breathing may help to avoid some of these more serious problems.  We are fortunate in that many people have dedicated their efforts to finding these ways to improve.

Correct Practice May Make Near Perfect

It is a little difficult to imagine that anyone would need practice breathing.  It may be natural, but there are still some bad habits that can go along with it.  Some of the things people do to practice involve the lips.  Others involve the nose, the diaphragm, or even making noises as they breathe.  A little practice may help us to develop better techniques that could become habits.  Many people who use their voices for their livelihood regularly practice breathing exercises.

Better Breathing May Boost Our Immunity

It seems like lots of things help our immune systems.  As we breathe well, we are able to take in oxygen and give off carbon dioxide.  This is the normal respiratory process of animals.  Better practices may ensure that we are able to increase the supply of oxygen to our cells and tissues.  This means that our cardiovascular system will work better as well.  In the process, we will be removing unwanted things from our bodies.  It is a good way to have better health much like maintaining an automobile.

Breathe Better to Relax

Many of us have had the experience of slowing down our breathing in order to prevent us from becoming light-headed or anxious.  These kinds of things may help to slow our bodies down so that we can relax.  There are many organized activities that rely on these practices to make them more effective.  Controlled breathing activities may help us to focus, meditate, and relax before going to bed.  It is easy and worth a try, and we all have times in which we need to relax.
