3 Easy Places to Cut Carbs
By Genevieve Cunningham
Cutting carbs is all the rage in the fitness world. Most diets have some form of a carb reduction. And while most of us see the logic in this approach, very few actually know where to begin. If you’re interested in cutting carbs and losing weight, take a look at these easy ways to get moving down the low carb path.
A Sandwich
When you think of a sandwich, you probably imagine two pieces of bread with some meat and veggies in the middle. But if you’re looking to cut carbs, there are other ways to eat a sandwich. Try going with an open faced sandwich. This means putting a piece of bread on the bottom, layering your veggies and meat normally, and then leaving the top exposed … no second piece of bread. Then just eat it with a fork. If you want to cut even more, buy some large leafed lettuce and use two pieces in place of the bread instead.
Dinner Sides
Having a piece of bread or toast (or two!) with dinner is completely normal and definitely delicious. But it’s also a carb that can be easily cut from your regular menu. Instead of opting for bread, choose another veggie. You’ll lose the carbs, and you’ll probably lose a few calories from your meal as well. Asparagus, broccoli, green beans … any of these are great choices for a quick and easy second side.
Noodles
This is the most difficult option of the three, but it’s still not that hard. Instead of going for regular old noodles in your spaghetti or other pasta, try spaghetti squash. You’ll cook the squash, cut it open, and scrape out the insides, which now resemble noodles. The texture and taste are just slightly different, but it doesn’t take much getting used to. Once you learn to like it, you’ll have an incredibly easy way to cut carbs and eat healthier.
While you probably don’t want to cut out all of your carbs, it’s a good idea to cut back. Too many carbs makes it difficult to lose weight. To get moving in the right direction without too much effort, give these methods a try. You may find that cutting carbs is a lot easier than you thought, and your diet and fitness will likely see a boost as a result.
