Dr. Samantha Diehl became part of The Joint Chiropractic’s family of healthcare providers in 2014 when she began serving patients at the Shiloh, Glen Carbon and Columbia clinic locations. A graduate of Jefferson College and Logan College of Chiropractic, she earned a doctorate in chiropractic as well as a bachelor’s degree in biology.
Dr. Samantha, as she likes to be called, loves being involved in the chiropractic field.
“I love seeing people’s lives change when they feel great for the first time in a long time,” she says. “The other thing I love is working in a profession where patients are happy to see me every week.”
A product of Cedar Hill, Mo., Dr. Samantha previously worked in the Missouri cities of O’Fallon and St. Peters.
When she’s not looking after two daughters and their two bunnies, Dr. Samantha enjoys singing, painting and running.
She says she knew chiropractic was her calling when she got some awesome feedback -- but not from a patient, but his wife.
“One time a woman I had never met before came into my office to thank me for saving her marriage because I had been treating her husband and he was so much nicer to her now, like the ‘old Jim’ now that he was out of pain,” she says.
Dr. Samantha loves serving as the local chiropractor in such a military-rich region. “I like the community near Scott Air Force Base because I enjoy serving those who serve our country,” she says.
In Case You Didn’t Know
Dr. Samantha says the one thing she always keeps in her refrigerator are “cold bottles of water: A fresh start always improves my day and makes me feel better.”
If she had the opportunity to meet any four people from history, Dr. Samantha says she would love to sit down with Princess Diana, Stephen Hawking, Aristotle, and Tony Robbins.
“I aspire to live my life with the same level of class and tenacity as Princess Diana,” she says. “She was an iconic, inspirational woman who overcame adversity and social class barriers for a man she loved who she then divorced in an act of self-respect and preservation due to his infidelity and incompetence as a potential king. Despite the misdealings of the royal family on her for snubbing their beloved Prince Charles, Princess Diana refocused her heartbroken energy into healing and helping those less fortunate with an intense passion that touched the whole world.
“I would love to open a conversation between Stephen Hawking and Aristotle about new and old world science, observations and philosophies that have shaped our view of the world as we know it today. And finally, I would invite Tony Robbins because it is my life’s ambition to be a motivational public speaker to help others to reach their fullest potential to live healthy, be happy, and to help others.”
One of the most amazing experiences of her life took place in paradise. “In the same day in Hawaii, I went snorkeling at the bottom of the Captain Cook Trail, hiked up 1,300 feet, then took a bus tour to the top of Mauna Kea and star-gazed in the darkest place on the planet,” she says. “Exploring the wonders of the world and how amazing this planet is, is so cool.”
Dr. Tom Fulcher joined the family of The Joint Chiropractic in 2019 with his arrival at the Glen Carbon clinic location. A product of Danville Junior College, he received his doctor of chiropractic degree from Palmer College of Chiropractic, where he received a chiropractic certification in spinal trauma.” He is also a Fellow of the American Back Society.
“The best thing about being in the chiropractic field is the ability to help people regain and maintain their health throughout their lifetime,” Dr. Tom says. “The other thing I love is the opportunity to get to know so many of the people in the community.”
Dr. Tom spent his early years in New York in a family whose travels were determined by his father’s role with the Apollo space program. They lived in Swarthmore, Pa., in the 1960s before moving to Illinois.
He moved to Davenport, Iowa, to start chiropractic college at Palmer College in January 1976, and moved back to Quincy, Ill., in 1980. Four years later, he moved to Washington, D.C., where he practiced for seven years. In 1991, he moved to Springfield, Ill., and has practiced there ever since; he currently maintains a part-time practice there.
In his spare time, Dr. Tom enjoys singing. “I am part of a karaoke group in Springfield that meets every Tuesday night,” he says. “I prefer to sing Elvis and Barry Manilow music, and once a year, I sing at Graceland during Elvis Week.”
Dr. Tom knew early on what he wanted to do. His father was a regular chiropractic patient as a result of an accident he had as a truck driver who hauled cars. “He hurt his back badly when he was loading a VW Beetle onto a car carrier in a snowstorm and it slipped off the top of the trailer,” he says. Through his father’s chiropractors, Dr. Tom was introduced to chiropractic, and afterward structured the rest of his high school and junior college curriculum toward getting into Palmer College.
Dr. Tom likes working at The Joint Chiropractic because it fits very closely with his core values: “It is a low-cost cash practice and allows people access to chiropractic who would be financially unable otherwise.”
In Case You Didn’t Know
If Dr. Tom could bring together any four people from history, he would love to gather around an open fire on the backyard patio. “I would like to meet Elvis Presley,” he says. “I grew up listening to him and singing his music; his music is fun and it makes me happy. I would also include Troy Gentry of the country music duo Montgomery Gentry; he was a fine man who I used to hang out with in Memphis until his tragic death. It would be fun to pick the brain of Dr. BJ Palmer, the developer of chiropractic. Finally, I would include the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, which was started by the heavy metal group Savatage; the lead singer was a patient of mine in Washington, D.C.”
Dr. Tom’s passion for singing led to one of the most interesting things he has done.
“I guess the coolest thing I ever did was sing at Graceland,” he says. “I get to hang out with people from all over the world who appreciate Elvis, and share each other’s interpretation of Elvis’ music. It’s an awesome camaraderie.”
