Why You Should Consider Naps to Be Essential
By Genevieve Cunningham
In America, we rush. It's what we do. We constantly work and constantly rush and leave very little room for rest or relaxation. As a result, we're more stressed and fatigued than ever before. Though many other places in the world are similar in their behavior, there are some places that really value rest and sleep. They make it priority, so much so that naps are an expected behavior, even for adults. While this might seem like a foreign concept to American adults, there may be something to it. If you're tired of feeling tired and rundown, take a look at these reasons why you should consider adding a nap to your routine today.
No One is Getting Enough Sleep
It's really rare to find an adult who actually gets enough sleep. We're all so busy and stressed. We toss and turn and worry. And we've been conditioned to believe that this isn't a big deal. But a lack of sleep is a very big deal. It can lead to aches and pains, a lack of concentration, headaches, irritability, and a wide range of negative side effects. If you're sick of feeling this way, regular naps might help you get enough sleep to turn these symptoms around.
Naps Can Give You a Reset
Naps can recharge your energy and your brain. If you plan on taking a nap in the afternoon, you may be able to avoid that dreaded afternoon slump. You'll give your body and mind a reset of sorts. You may notice that even a 20-minute nap can significantly alter the way that you feel. If you're guilty of losing steam midday, planning a nap might be the perfect choice.
It’s Just Not That Serious
Here's the real deal: We all take life way too seriously. Sure, life matters. And yes, there are parts of life that should be taken seriously. But as a whole, we need to relax. No one is getting out alive! Allowing for a nap helps us remember that it's just not that serious. It matters and it's good and it's special. But serious? It's not serious enough to skip the nap if we have the realistic opportunity.
Napping can be incredibly beneficial. If you're feeling fatigued on a regular basis, do your best to schedule a nap into your day. You may be surprised at how much better it makes you feel. Get a nap, feel your best, and watch your quality of life improve.
