Are You Doing These Mental Health Habits Daily?
By Genevieve Cunningham
How well are you taking care of your mental health? Most people are aware that they should be making this aspect of their health a priority, but many have trouble actually making it happen. If you're not well-versed in mental health self-care, it can be hard to know where to begin or what habits to keep. But there's good news: Mental health isn't as difficult as many believe. If you're ready to make mental health a top priority in your life, take a look at these daily habits that you should start keeping today.
Are You Getting Movement?
Movement is a habit, a way of life. If you don't make time for it, it won't happen. And when movement doesn't happen, it affects our life in multiple, really powerful ways. A lack of movement is linked to poor physical health, weight gain, reduction in stamina, and of course, poor mental health. If you want to improve each of these areas of your life, make sure movement is happening. Join a gym, take a walk, or just play outside. But get moving, and do it now.
Are You Unplugging?
We're all connected all the time. We're connected to our phones, our laptops, our tablets, and literally anything that we can get our hands on that offers connectivity. We're addicted, and it shows. If you're not taking the time to unplug, your mental health is either already suffering or will in the future. Just turn it off! Take a break at the end of the day. Put down the phone and rest or read or draw or do a hobby. Making time to unplug means making time for better health all the way around.
Are You Sleeping Well?
Poor sleep can really do a number on your health. Sometimes poor sleep is out of our control. Other times, we do it to ourselves through poor habits. If you want better mental health, focus on improving your bedtime and sleeping habits. The better your rest, the better your health, and the higher your quality of life. Get sleep so that life will get a little easier, and so you can feel a little better every day.
Your habits help you create good health or poor health. And while it's not always the case, in many instances, you can choose your health through your habits! For better mental health, make these habits a part of your normal life. Before long, your mental health will improve and you'll feel better about life in general.
