Workplace Wellness: Managing Stress in the Office
By Brandi Goodman
Office employees tend to feel a great deal of stress daily. With countless tasks to accomplish, goals to meet, and a boss to impress, office workers tend to have a lot of stress on their shoulders. Managing it needs to be a priority if you have any hope of getting through each work day and not letting work take over your mind while you're at home.
Participate in a Wellness Program
Some companies offer wellness programs and incentives. Always be sure to participate in these. They tend to offer helpful information and give you great advice on how to beat stress and maintain mental health and well-being in the workplace.
Take a Walk on Your Lunch Break
Exercise is a proven way to beat stress. Finding time for fitness during your work day can help to relieve some of the tension that's built up over the hours you've already spent working. Taking a walk on your lunch break is a perfect option. If there's a lunch spot nearby, walk there to get your steps in and alleviate the stress that's built up thus far. If there isn't a spot close enough, at least take a walk around the office or down the street and back to get your blood flowing.
Bring Healthy Snacks
Snacking on processed foods and junk can make your mind and body feel worse. Feeling bloated, sick, or otherwise unwell tends to make people snap easier and let stress overwhelm them faster. Bringing healthy snacks and choosing a healthy lunch is a simple way to prevent this from happening. If your mind and body feel great, your attitude will be all the better. This includes drinking more water and avoiding overdoing it on coffee and soda pop.
Take Your Vacation Time
Too many people let their vacation days build up without ever using them. Though it may be important for you to earn money and be there with your team to meet deadlines, overworking yourself can cause you to feel stress more often. Taking your vacation time when you need it is key. It will help you reset and recharge so you're better able to cope at work.
Finding stress relief from work can greatly improve your workplace wellness. The tension that builds throughout the day can spill over into other areas of your life if you don't find ways to cope. Seeing a chiropractor at The Joint Chiropractic may also offer some relief. Your doctor can remove joint restrictions, offer advice on healthy lifestyle changes that may help, and even offer additional coping strategies.
