Finding Fitness Opportunities All Summer Long
By Brandi Goodman
Exercise doesn't necessarily have to be planned out. It also doesn't have to feel like a workout. It's better to enjoy the fitness opportunities you're getting instead of dreading having to get up and move. Find fitness opportunities all summer long that you can enjoy and like doing.
Swim at the Beach
Say you have plans to head to the beach. Maybe you normally lay in the sun while your kids play in the sand and swim. You may even wade into the water a bit, but not do much else. Swim! Get in the water and go for a swim on a hot day. It's great for your mind and body and can help increase your strength in no time. You work all of your muscles when your paddle your arms, kick your legs, and get your body gliding through the water.
Bike Everywhere You Can
Don't take your car if you don't have to. Bike everywhere you can this summer. The breeze on your skin can feel great on a hot day. It will also give you the exercise you need. Bike to work. Bike to the park with your kids. Bike around town for a quick mental health getaway. You'll be boosting your lower body strength and burning calories.
Play at the Park
If you plan on taking your kids or children you babysit to the park, don't just sit on the sidelines. Get out there and play with them. A playground provides many great fitness opportunities. Swing and work your lower body as you pump your legs. Strengthen your arms as you make your way across the monkey bars. Run across the moving bridge. Slide. Play catch in the grass. Run around. You'll have a ton of fun, burn plenty of calories, and the kiddos will be thrilled you joined them.
Try Childhood Trends
You may have spent recess at school jump roping with your friends. Perhaps you used chalk to create a hopscotch board in your driveway. These childhood trends don't have to stay in the past. Use them now to get some exercise in a fun way.
Fitness opportunities are everywhere in the summer. You have so many outdoor options that won't even feel like exercise. Instead, you can completely enjoy yourself and like the fitness options you're engaging in. It will make you even more likely to continue if you feel joy from the activities.
