How to Jump-Start Your New Year Fitness Resolution
By Genevieve Cunningham
It's coming, and we all know it. It's the time of year when we pack on a few pounds. The holiday goodies and the hot cocoa and the lack of exercise -- it takes its toll! Luckily, most people use the new year as a time to get back on track, drop a few pounds, and get in shape. But what if you didn't wait until the new year? What if you got a head start and started the process now? If you're not interested in skipping the fun of the holidays in lieu of a workout routine, rest assured. There are ways to start the fitness resolution now that are small, subtle, and incredibly easy. If you think starting early is a good plan, take a look at these simple ways to get started now.
Start Small Now
It's OK to start really small. You don't have to make your resolution and then spend an hour in the gym the very next day. That just makes it harder! Instead, make some very small goals that you can begin and accomplish right now. Try to cut out soda or even one soda per day. Try to get in an extra two walks per week. Focus on drinking one more glass of water every day. It may not seem like much, but these tiny steps really add up. And if you start now, you'll be well on your way to better health before the new year even arrives.
Get a Plan of Action Ready
If you're not keen on actually beginning the process now, use this time to get fully prepared. Choose your dietary theory to follow and then search for recipes. Make grocery lists of the foods that you want to include. Choose a workout plan and make sure you have all of the necessary equipment. For some people, planning is everything. Get prepared ahead of time, and the process will be easier when it's time to get started.
Begin a Few Days Early
So you don't really want to begin now, right? But you like the idea of starting early. If this is you, choose a date that is just a few days before the new year, and begin then. Start just two days before the new year. Start the day after Christmas. Beginning just a few days early might make you feel like the ball is already rolling. It might take a bit of pressure off. It might make you feel a little bit ahead of the game. And this feeling may help you keep the motivation alive when the going gets tough.
The new year is a great time to start a fitness resolution. What better time to recommit to your own well-being? But if you want to be successful, you have to get started and stick with it! Use these tips to get your fitness resolution started a little early, and enjoy the success that comes with it.
