Fitting Exercise Into Your Busy Schedule

By Brandi Goodman

A busy schedule is often the excuse people use for not working out. Rather than taking this approach, you should do what you can to fit exercise into your schedule instead. Do whatever you can to find even a few minutes to get your heart rate up a bit so you can keep your heart strong and yourself healthy overall.

Combine It With TV Time

Maybe some time watching TV is how you get your self-care. If you don't want to miss your favorite shows, don't. But you can fit exercise into the mix so you're making better use of your time. Simply standing in front of the TV and stepping in place can do a lot of good for your lower body.

Turn a Date Into a Workout

Date night is often the same for many people. You go to dinner. Maybe you head out to a movie afterward. You need to find new ways to bond if you hope to keep the relationship thriving. Working out or adding a physical aspect to the mix can really boost the bonding experience. Take a dance class together. Take a walk hand-in-hand. Get out a ball and kick it back and forth with one another. There's plenty of simple ways to get active and enjoy time with one another.

Add It on the Calendar

If you really have your whole day full, you'll need to add your exercise time to your calendar. Pencil it in somewhere, even if it's only for a few minutes. It could be as simple as planning to bike to work instead of drive one day, or take the stairs instead of the elevator.

Try Something Fun

Rather than working out at the gym or doing something you can't stand, you need to make sure you're trying something fun when you exercise. It will make it feel far more worthwhile and might even lead you to want to do more of it. Dance. Take a unique class. Swim at the beach. Do what is most fun for you to help you stick with it.

A busy life shouldn't stop you from staying as healthy as possible. There are always ways to fit exercise into your schedule somewhere. Start making more of an effort to fit it in, and watch your health evolve. Exercise is vital to your mental and physical well-being.
