4 Green Foods to Add to Your Diet Today

By Genevieve Cunningham

You’ve probably heard that eating green foods is good for your health. It’s not a secret, and most people can agree that a diet full of color is generally healthier than one that is beige or brown. But if we’re being honest with ourselves, getting more green in the diet can be hard. Besides the obvious addition of lettuce, what other green foods should we turn to? If you’re looking to improve your diet with as much healthy food as possible, take a look at these four green foods to try today.

Celery

Celery is so incredibly low calorie. It’s even been speculated that it requires more calories to chew and digest than are actually present in the veggie. But besides being extremely low in calories, celery also contains some healthy benefits. Since it’s over 90 percent water, it’s an excellent source of hydration. It can also give you potassium, Vitamin K, and fiber.

Cucumber

Cucumber is another great source of water, as it is approximately 95 percent water. It also contains potassium, protein, and various other nutrients. Luckily, cucumber is easy to add to your menu. It works well as a raw snack, is an excellent addition to any salad, and is the perfect choice for a veggie tray.

Kale

You’ve definitely heard of kale. This superfood really is super. It contains massive amounts of Vitamins C and A, along with traces of iron, magnesium, and protein. You can add kale to any salad, add it to a smoothie or shake, and can be baked into chips. If you only choose one green food to add to your menu, kale is probably your best choice.

Bell Pepper

Bell pepper comes in multiple colors, one of which is a bright green. Bell peppers are high in Vitamin C. Adding these to your normal menu can boost your immune system, and of course, it makes plenty of dishes even more delicious. Dice them up and add them to dinners, slice them and eat them raw. It doesn’t matter how you eat them as long as you gain the healthy benefits.

Adding green food to your diet can be both delicious and easy. Use these foods as a jumping off point. As you get used to eating healthier foods, it’ll be easier and easier to add more. With a little practice and some time, your diet will be healthier than ever bringing you big benefits into your health and life.
