How to Reduce Toxins in Your Diet
By Genevieve Cunningham
There's a lot of talk in our world today about toxins. There are toxins in the air, toxins in many of our products, and even toxins in our foods. The problem is not necessarily that a few toxins are present, but rather that the number of toxins that we consume are actually quite numerous. Encountering too many of these unnatural substances, and you have a recipe for poor health. But how can we avoid them? If you're anxious to lower the amount of toxins that you regularly consume, take a look at these tips to help you do it.
Skip Processed Junk
Highly processed foods -- think foods that come prepackaged -- tend to be harder on the body than fresh foods. Why? One reason is because of toxins. These kinds of foods have tons of preservatives and sugars to make them last longer and taste better. Frozen dinners and packaged sweets and things of this nature just aren’t good choices. If you can avoid these kinds of foods, you'll be much better off.
Buy From the Local Farmers Market
One great way to avoid toxins is to eat fresh. Buy groceries at your local farmers market. This food tends to be less toxic because of the way in which it was grown. Local farmers are likely using far fewer chemicals than larger corporations who are growing and selling produce by the thousands. And if you decide to go this route, you'll also be supporting your local farmer and community. Win-win!
Understand Labels
Many of us are taking in toxins and we don't even realize it. If you want to stop taking in unknown toxins, you have to learn to read labels. Many of the toxic ingredients are listed on the label, but we don’t understand what we’re reading. Once you learn to read ingredients, you can begin to avoid some of the more common toxins in everyday foods. Do some research on the internet or ask a nutritionist to help you get started.
Toxins are everywhere. We can't avoid all toxins, but we may be able to lower our consumption with some simple planning and acquisition of knowledge. Use these tips to lower the amount of toxins in your life, and feel healthier and better than ever before you know it.
