Why Your Diet Isn't Working as Well as You Want
By Genevieve Cunningham
Diets can be complicated. If we're not taught healthy diets when we're young, it can be really hard to make lasting changes. And even when we do make changes, it's sometimes hard to find the perfect combination for our bodies. It's all trial and error and endless research. Sometimes we make changes that we think are going to finally bring the results that we're looking for -- and then nothing happens. What gives? If your diet isn't bringing the results you want, take a look at these reasons why your overall diet may need some work.
The Calories Aren't Adding Up
Counting calories is simple but not easy. It's so easy to miscalculate. What looks like one helping may actually be one and a half or two. And this can easily double the calories that you intended to eat. If you're having a hard time guessing serving size, consider using a food scale to help you out. This simple act may help you cut hundreds of calories and finally drop the extra weight.
The Output Isn't Enough
Your caloric intake is important. Really important. But the number of calories you burn is important too. It's possible that, even though you've cut consumption, you're still not burning enough to make a dent. Along with a healthy diet, it's important to exercise as well. Go for walks, run, or join a fun class at the local gym. Burning more calories makes it much more likely that you'll lose some weight and feel more comfortable in your own skin.
You Haven't Figured Out Your Body's Needs
Here's an important thing to remember: Everyone's body is different. What worked for your friend won't necessarily work for you. You may have different needs. You may need different foods. Listen to your body. Listen to how it responds to different diets and forms of exercise. As you get to know your body, you'll be far more likely to find what works for you long-term.
Changing your diet is probably a good idea. Most people could use a little boost in their nutrition. But don't get discouraged if it doesn't work right away. Do your research, listen to your body, and stick to the plan. With enough time and some trial and error, you'll find what works for you so that you can enjoy the best body and health of your life.
