Keeping Your Health on Track Throughout the Holidays

By Virginia Laird

Each year, many lose sight of their health goals during the holidays, opting instead to feed their cravings for all things delicious. Rather than allowing this to happen to you, experts advise there are several things you can do to keep your health a priority as you enjoy the holidays and the food which accompanies them. Some of their advice includes:

  • Make time to exercise daily
  • Choose to follow a healthy diet
  • Get plenty of sleep

Make Time to Exercise Daily

Exercise should always be a priority when trying to maintain good overall health. Fitness experts suggest that at least a 20-minute workout each day can be enough to promote healthy living habits. While heading to the gym for a fitness class or workout can be a great plan, it is not the only way to get in shape and promote good health. Many experts admit that a brisk walk or jog through your neighborhood can be sufficient. Now is the time to begin making exercise a daily habit.

Choose to Follow a Healthy Diet

For many, following a healthy diet, especially throughout the holidays can prove to be too much of a struggle. However, health and wellness experts advise that avoiding weight gain and other health-related issues brought on by making poor diet decisions can be avoided by sticking to a healthy diet all year long. For many, this includes consuming plenty of fresh fruits and veggies, as well as lean proteins. Start putting your health first by routinely making healthy food choices.

Get Plenty of Sleep

Sleep can be hard to come by during the holiday season. With a long list of to-dos, it is easy to find yourself burning the midnight oil all too often. Rather than allowing yourself to fall victim to a lack of sleep, it is best to make getting enough sleep a priority. This can require you to leave a few things unfinished as bedtime approaches. Health and wellness professionals would remind you that whatever you have that needs to be done will still be there after you get a good night of sleep. Begin today making sure you are getting at least 6 hours of sleep each night.

Now is the best time to begin preparing to keep your holiday habits healthy.
