Small Health Tips to Try This Week

By Alexis Mills

What people need to realize when getting healthy is that you will be getting the results you want by making small changes in your daily life. Adopting new, healthier habits into your life can really prevent big health issues down the line. After a while, if you stick with making these changes part of your daily routine, then it becomes a habit that really creates your overall health. Take a look at the list of small changes you can incorporate to your life. Start with one and see how an easy tweak will improve your overall wellness.

  • Try 10 minutes of meditation
  • Wake up 1-2 hours earlier and go to bed earlier; make the most of your days
  • Try bullet journaling to manage thoughts and to-do lists
  • Eat some dark chocolate to improve cognitive performance
  • Have a night in to spend alone or with someone special
  • Practice gratitude; write 10 things you are grateful for
  • Exercise a few times a week
  • Don't sweat the small stuff
  • Lighten your environment
  • Take a walk outside if it's not too cold, but burn more calories if it is
  • Drink more water
  • Do simple food swaps from unhealthy to a healthier option
  • Take the stairs
  • Cut out soda
  • Eat more vegetables
  • Make fresh food at home; maybe try a new recipe

  • Cut out sugar
  • Read nutrition labels
  • Laugh every day
  • Read for 20 minutes every day
  • Put on your favorite music
  • Get some sun but apply sunscreen
  • Take breaks from social media and your phone
  • Schedule work and down time
  • Stretch daily
  • Wash your hands frequently
  • Slow down and be present in the moment

Start with what connects with you and don't worry about the rest. Not everything works for every person, so it's important to only do what feels right and true to you. Also, don't overwhelm yourself or get frustrated with not being where you want to be. Get your mind in the moment and don't try to bite off more than you can chew.

Many people have trouble making drastic lifestyle changes and there is nothing wrong with that because things can't always happen overnight. Making small, incremental changes and meaningful shifts can make a difference and enhance your quality of life. You can do almost anything if you are able to break it down into smaller, doable goals; meet each of the small goals and you should be able to achieve your large goal.
