Are You Up to Your Ankles in Trouble?

By Sandy Schroeder

Ankles let us do everything – run, jump, dance or just walk. But when they run into trouble, it may be all we can do to get from the bedroom to the kitchen.

If you have ever had a sprained ankle you know how quickly ankle pain can impact your life. Some time ago, I flew off a bike and landed in the street. Luckily my sprained ankle was my only injury. But it ballooned up and kept me on crutches for two weeks.

If you think you have a sprained ankle, see your doctor and then follow up with your chiropractor as you move through the crutch stage and become more mobile again.

Don't Ignore Ankle Pain

If you do not have a sprain, but your ankle or other joints really hurt, don’t let pain get a grip. If pain is stopping you from your normal activities, have it checked out at The Joint Chiropractic in your area.

Stress fractures, tendonitis and arthritis are common sources of ankle pain. Ignoring the pain, or muffling it with pain medication, could lead to more injury.

When you come in, your chiropractor will talk with you about your pain, your normal routines, and your medical history. The goal will be to seek pain relief, and return you to your normal activities, without taking prescription pain medications or using surgery.

Chiropractic Pain Relief

If it seems beneficial, your chiropractor will use an adjustment, or individual joint manipulation, to relieve restrictions that can block movement, irritate nerves or lead to ongoing degeneration.  The adjustment is accomplished through the gentle application of a targeted movement to improve motion of the body’s spinal column and extremities. It is done in an open bay area on a special table.

You and your chiropractor can assess the results and lay out a plan to get you back to normal. At the same time you may notice more energy, better sleep, more alertness, and improved digestion and metabolism.

Stretching and strengthening the ankle with specific exercises may help. Here’s one to try when you are ready.

Alphabet Trace – Moving through the alphabet with your big toe can strengthen your ankle. Sit down. Hold the right leg out straight. Write in capitals and lowercase. Switch legs to repeat.

The Joint Chiropractic clinic in your area is ready to help. Stop by and find out how simple the process is. An affordable care program eliminates the need for insurance. Weekend and evening hours are available, and no appointments are needed.
