3 Ways to Keep Summer Both Fun and Healthy
By Genevieve Cunningham
Summer. Almost everyone looks forward to this time of year. The sun, the time off, the extra time with friends. But along with the fun, it's also important to think about our health. If we forget about our health through the summer, we can set ourselves back all year long. Luckily, putting your health first doesn't have to mean giving up the fun. You can absolutely do both! If you need help preparing for a fun and healthy summer, take a look at these activities to start right now.
Spend Time Outdoors (Safely)
Getting outside is half the fun of the summer. It feels so good to soak in the sunshine and longer days. But we have to do this safely in order to protect our skin. Before heading outside, cover your body in sunscreen, and be prepared to reapply throughout the day. You can also carry layers, sunglasses, and a hat with you to further protect your body. And because the outdoors are certainly going to get hot during the summer, you should always keep water on hand. If you do so in a safe way, you can spend almost your whole summer out in nature.
Get in Some Seasonal Exercise
Exercise shouldn't stop in the summer. But luckily, you can find ways to work out and have fun at the same time. Try to take advantage of seasonal activities that get you moving. Put on some good shoes, grab some friends, and go for a hike. Get a new suit, find a pool, and swim some laps. Take advantage of the cool mornings and evenings by taking the family for a walk at the park. This allows you to get some exercise while also enjoying the season to the fullest.
Catch Up on Much Needed Rest
If you're one of the lucky who gets a little more time off in the summer, consider catching up on rest. Sleep in every once in a while. Take a nap midday. Rest while you can! As you catch up on rest, you're likely to see your health improve and your mood boosted. Rest is crucial, and catching up can change your whole outlook on health and life moving forward.
Summer can be a wonderful time of year. It can be so much fun, and if you plan ahead, it can be incredibly healthy too. Use these tips to maintain -- or possibly improve -- your health through the summer, and start off the next season feeling better than ever before.
