Keeping the Weight Off for Good
By Donna Stark
Losing weight is a great accomplishment, but just because those pounds have disappeared, it doesn't mean you are in the clear. There is still a lot of work to do because maintaining your new, healthy weight can be just as challenging as the actual process of losing it. And since you worked so hard to reach these new health and fitness goals, the last thing you'll want is for those gains to disappear. Here are some easy tips to follow that will help keep the weight off and keep you on the path to optimal wellness!
Don't Drink Your Calories
They may not be visible to the eye, but hundreds of calories lurk in those fancy coffee drinks, sugary smoothies, and happy-hour cocktails. Do yourself a favor and stick with water as often as you can. And when you want to treat yourself, be intentional about choosing low-calorie options or keep your indulgences to a minimum.
Be OK With Saying No
Whether it's your boss bringing treats in for the office staff or your friend offering to share her dessert, it's perfectly OK for you to say no. Don't allow anyone to guilt you into eating something that you wouldn't normally pick for yourself. Stick to your guns and let them know you are completely fine without it.
Use Technology
If your busy life is getting the best of you and you feel like you may be slipping into your old habits again, download an app for your phone that keeps track of what you eat. This way you will know exactly what you are putting in your body and where you stand throughout the day.
Get Adequate Rest
Sleep deprivation can make us do a lot of things we may regret and making poor diet choices tops the list! When you are tired, you may be more likely to become lazy in the kitchen, eat with your emotions, and consume high-calorie energy drinks to keep you moving. Getting the proper amount of sleep that your body requires is critical for maintaining a healthy weight!
Keep Exercising
Last but not least, continue to stay as physically active as you can! Stick to the fitness program that got you to this point or switch it up a bit if you have to! If you are becoming bored with your routine, go out and find other activities that interest you. The key idea here is to keep your body in motion.
Keep On Keeping On
The most important rule about weight loss and maintenance is that if you have a bad day or week, don't give up! Forgive yourself, address what went wrong, and stay the course. Remember, it's a journey and you will reach your chosen destination.
