Is Juicing Worth the Trouble?

By Genevieve Cunningham

If you've ever been interested in health and fitness and diet of any kind, then you've definitely heard of juicing. Juicing is not a new concept. It's one that has been around for a long time and is consistently used by people in the health world (and some regular joes, too!). But what exactly is juicing? And seriously, do you have to do it for better health? If you've been curious about the need for juicing or the potential effects, take a look at this quick juicing guide to help you get started.

What is Juicing?

Juicing is the act of taking fruits and vegetables (and sometimes supplements), blending them into a juice concoction, and then drinking this for health benefits. Sometimes, the juice is the only thing consumed over a certain period of time, and other times, the juice is just an addition to an already healthy diet. It's used in various ways and for various reasons depending on the specific person and their specific needs.

What are the Benefits?

Proponents of juicing claim a few benefits from the process. The juice is easy on the digestive system, which means consumption often reduces gut inflammation and makes general digestion a little easier. Depending on the ingredients of your juice, it may also help to clean and detoxify the body. And of course, there are those who use it for weight loss. It's important to note that most people using the juicing method advise against using juicing solely for weight loss, but suggest instead that you use it to gain the other benefits with weight loss as a side benefit.

How Can You Make It Easy?

If you're interested in trying juicing, there are a few ways to go about it. Perhaps the easiest way is to simply buy a juicing program from a reputable seller. Many health food stores, whether in-person or online, sell juicing bundles to help you get started. The only problem is that this option is often more expensive long-term. If you would like to do it yourself, you'll need a good juicer, a list of recipes, and a willingness to experiment along the way.

Do You Have To Do It?

In short, no. You definitely don't have to juice. If your doctor or nutritionist recommends it, then by all means, give it a try! Or if you seriously want to try it, go for it. But there's nothing about juicing that suggests it's truly necessary. If you decide to give it a try, be safe. Don't restrict too many calories or use it in an inappropriate manner. Ask your doctor for advice and listen to your body for the best health results.
