Need More Morning Energy? Try These Tips!
By Genevieve Cunningham
How much energy do you have first thing in the morning? While there is a group of people who wake up bright-eyed and ready to go, most people aren't so keen to get moving first thing. If you're like most, you probably drag yourself out of bed, wait impatiently for your morning caffeine, and force yourself to get dressed and go to work. But believe it or not, this doesn't actually have to be the way you spend your mornings. You can have more energy in the mornings, and improving your morning routine can improve your whole day. If you're interested in feeling better in the mornings, take a look at these tips to get you moving.
Adjust Your Attitude
You'll never be able to function well in the mornings if you're constantly negative about it. If we go to bed dreading the morning, and then we wake up and tell ourselves how much we hate the mornings, then the mornings aren't going to work in our favor! Instead, start changing your internal dialogue. Tell yourself how much you like the mornings. How good you feel. How calm you are. If you can learn to change your dialogue about the mornings, you'll have a huge head start to altering the direction of your whole day.
Improve Your Nighttime Routine
If you don't get enough sleep, it's going to be really hard to feel good in the morning. To get more sleep, consider creating a really solid bedtime routine. This might include some reading or a bath or some yoga. Do whatever makes you feel relaxed. Whatever winds you down. As your body and mind get accustomed to the routine, you may begin to get better sleep, which will lead to better mornings as well.
Wake Up Quietly
Are you one of the many who wakes up and reaches for the phone? We all do this -- and it's not good. We spend the morning scrolling through social media, reading disturbing news, and getting our minds worked up before the day has even begun. Instead, wake up slowly and quietly. Spend a few minutes outside. Drink your coffee in peace. Read from a favorite book. We underestimate the power of our minds. Keep your mind feeling good in the morning, and you're much more likely to maintain energy levels throughout the day.
Move Your Body
Getting just a little bit of exercise in the morning can help boost energy and your mood. Go for a walk. Do some yoga. Turn on an online workout video. It doesn't have to be much, and it doesn't have to wear you completely out. Just get a little movement to make your morning -- and your whole day -- a lot better.
The mornings don't have to be something to dread. You don't have to be rundown and exhausted. You can actually enjoy your mornings, and you can gain a little energy with just a few small changes. Use these tips to help make your mornings enjoyable and productive from here on out.
