Improving Travel With Chiropractic
By Brandi Goodman
Spring break will arrive soon for many people. This is a common time to travel. Even if you wait until summer to do your vacationing, using chiropractic care and advice can help you make the most of the time you have. It's important to prepare the body for the trip and not just the baggage.
Adjusting Joint Restrictions
Joint restrictions can cause interference with the nervous system and other systems vital for the overall functioning of the body. You may experience poor immune health, frequent headaches, or other pain. A chiropractor can adjust joint restrictions and ensure everything is in its proper place. Not having any joint restrictions in the way means the body can continue to operate at optimal levels. Seeing a chiropractor before you travel and getting these subluxations adjusted can help you enjoy your trip without worries of pain or illness.
Following Chiropractic Advice
A chiropractic adjustment will help tremendously. It won't last the entire duration of your trip, however. Sitting in a car or plane for hours on end to get to your destination can cause further joint restrictions and stiffness that leads to aches. Following chiropractic advice, such as the following, will help improve these circumstances.
Stretch during the trip - Stretching will keep the body from getting too stiff and sore. Even when sitting in a small plane seat or in a cramped car you can stretch out parts of your body to prevent pain. Tilting your head forward and back can ease tension in the neck. Sitting up straight and pulling the shoulders back can ease tension in the upper back and neck. Plenty of seated stretches exist that make it possible to stay flexible.
Bring back support - A back support cushion that can be placed behind your lower back will prevent pain when sitting for long durations. The lower back tends to especially feel stiff during long travel times. A cushion placed behind it will offer the necessary support to prevent stiffness and slouching.
Avoid a tight grip on the wheel - When you're the one driving, you need to be sure you're not gripping the wheel too tightly. This can lead to fatigue of the hands and arms. Tighten and loosen your grip and stretch your fingers if you're feeling any tension in your hands.
