Chiropractic Tips to Enjoy the Outdoors

By Brandi Goodman

Many people continue to enjoy their time outdoors as the fall months arrive. Camping, biking, hiking, and even swimming are still common activities to enjoy during the autumn season on those warmer days. This time spent outside is great for boosting mood and mental health, but it can also be tough on the back if you're not cautious. Keep some chiropractic tips in mind when enjoying these activities so you can remain free from pain.

In the Water

Rotator cuff tears, inflammation in the shoulders, neck pain, and low back pain are all commonly caused by swimming. One piece of advice chiropractors offer is to stretch before you get into the water. Loosen up your ligaments so you're able to stay flexible and safe while you swim. It's also wise to stay hydrated, drinking plenty of water before you ever head in the water as well as once you get out of it.

At the Campsite

Many campgrounds remain open until the end of October, allowing campers to continue enjoying time away throughout the fall. Some even stay open year-round if you're brave enough to chance the weather. Following some chiropractic recommendations will ensure you have a pain-free trip. For starters, sleep on an air mattress or cot instead of the ground. A bad back will only get worse sleeping on such a hard surface. It's also important to use the proper equipment during your activities and stay hydrated so your body can handle the movements you'll have to make.

On a Hike

Hikes are great for fall since you'll get to explore the wilderness and see all the changing colors of the leaves. Consider chiropractic tips, such as wearing hiking boots and keeping your bag lightweight and easier to carry. This will help to prevent back pain and keep you from getting fatigued as fast. You may be able to handle a longer hike because of this.

On a Bike

Biking is also great during the fall season because of the change in scenery. Upgrade your bike when necessary to start. If your bike is too small you may feel tension as you ride. Chiropractors recommend picking a different cushion as well to ensure you can sit comfortably. The right pair of shoes will also go a long way, as sandals can have your feet slipping off the pedals and causing injury

No matter what time of year it is that you're outside, always be sure to follow these chiropractic tips so you can better enjoy your time. Your body will be more likely to remain pain-free so you can enjoy your time in the sunshine.
