Habits That Can Improve Your Health

By Paul Rothbart

Everybody would like to be healthier. Being ill interferes with making a living and enjoying life and just doesn't feel good. The hassle of taking medications and the desire for a long life are other good reasons to adopt habits that are good for health. It's not rocket science but it does take dedication to put good habits into practice and ingrain them. Here are some of the most effective.

Eating Well

Your body needs fuel and nutrition to build itself strong and function properly. You have control over what you put into your body and it's essential that you exercise it. Fresh fruits and vegetables are low in fat and calories and contain many essential vitamins and minerals. They also have antioxidants, powerful plant compounds that fight free radicals that can cause diseases. Protein is also essential and leaner sources such as poultry and fish are excellent choices. Fish also contain omega-3 fatty acids which are good for heart and brain health. Whole grains help keep cholesterol in check and aid heart health.

Exercise

A sedentary lifestyle degrades your health. Muscles atrophy, including the heart, and the risk of obesity increases. No matter how well you eat, if you don't move your body regularly you won't reach optimal health. Choose a form of exercise you enjoy and participate frequently. A 30-minute session 4-5 times a week will boost your cardiovascular system, help you maintain a healthy weight, and fight off illness. You can run, bike, swim, or lift weights. A brisk walk is a great way to exercise. Whatever you choose, just make sure you do it.

See a Chiropractor

Staying in your best health also requires some help from medical professionals. In addition to doctors and dentists, chiropractors can be very helpful. They can find and adjust subluxations or other problems in the spine and joints that can cause pain and limit your ability to stay active. They can alleviate tension headaches that also interfere with health. Many chiropractic patients find that they sleep better as well as have an easier time managing stress and anxiety. All of this can be part of the equation to your best level of health.

Staying healthy is an important and worthwhile goal. Self-care is a major part of it. Consider a visit to The Joint Chiropractic. You don't need an appointment. Regular chiropractic treatments may give you an edge in your quest for good health.
