Chiropractic Tips for Winter Camping
By Brandi Goodman
The peak of camping season may be over, but that doesn't mean camping is no longer allowed. Sure, some campgrounds close down for the winter months, but many year-round facilities remain open to RVs and motorhomes looking to stay for an extended time. Winter camping brings with it some different circumstances to watch out for -- so keep chiropractic tips in mind to make it more bearable.
Wear Layers and Stay Heated
One of the most important things you need to remember is how to stay heated in the cold. The cold weather can quickly cause aching joints and make you feel stiff and sore. You can start by wearing layers. Make sure you have on some long underwear beneath your clothes, and layer up with a coat, gloves, hat, and scarf. You can take a few pieces off if you get too warm, but will otherwise keep the cool air away.
You should also use a heating blanket or small heater inside your RV. It tends to get colder at night while you're sleeping. Stay comfortable -- but also safe. Make sure nothing is next to your heater and you don't have it set at the highest seating. It can be a fire hazard if you aren't careful.
Learn the Campsite and Trails
It's wise to learn about your campsite before you go -- as well as any trails you plan on taking. A winter hike can be beautiful, but you don't want it to end disastrously because you didn't know the terrain. Get familiar with the area, looking at maps and checking online for tips. You can even ask at the front office. That way, you can better prepare if you go out adventuring.
Stretch Well
Before you do head out, you want to stretch well. Stretching out your joints and muscles can help relieve tension and prevent them from becoming sore and overworked so easily. It can also ease some of the barometric pressure that builds up in the cold and can cause you aches.
It's smart to prepare properly before any task. Keep these chiropractic tips in mind before your winter camping trip, and you'll be more likely to enjoy it. Fewer aches mean more time for fun. Stop in at The Joint before you go for an assessment to ensure your body is prepared for the occasion. You'll want to visit after your excursion is completed as well so any damage done can be checked out promptly.
