Ropes Can Improve Health

By Tom Herrin

It isn’t always easy to begin a new fitness program.  There are so many different kinds of programs on the market that it is often difficult to decide which one is right for each individual.  It is important to determine exactly which one fits the needs of various people. The simplicity or complexity may be a major factor, depending on just how serious someone is and what they want to accomplish.  On the simple side, an old-fashioned rope jumping activity may fill the bill. Even for those who may think they are too old for such, the idea should not be dismissed without first giving some serious consideration.

It Is Always Good for Coordination

Practically everyone has an image of a boxer in training and jumping rope.  They use it for a variety of reasons. One of those is that it can be a great way to develop coordination.  The steady rhythm of the activity can do wonders. Anytime coordination is improved, overall conditioning can follow.  It can help to avoid accidents and injuries.

It Can Reduce Foot and Ankle Injuries

Facing facts is not much fun, but the fact is that as people get older, they are more prone to injury.  My wife reminds me of that all of the time. When people can do something to lessen the occurence of those, it can have a tremendous impact on the quality of life they live.  Jumping rope can help stengthen the feet and ankles when done correctly. Part of this is because it is a very controlled exercise. Unlike other things, there is no planting and turning that can often result in injury.  In the process of the jumping, people pretty much have to land on the balls of their feet as opposed to flat-footed.

It Can Be Done Inside or Outside

Ropes used for jumping do not have to be elaborate or expensive.  What is even better than that is that they are easy to carry. They can be carried in a purse, backpack, or any small bag.  Jumping rope can be done almost anywhere. It is something you can do inside in front of your television or listening to music.  If you want to enjoy the outdoors, it is easy to pull out the rope and start jumping. There may be no limit to the benefits. Another big one is building endurance.  One of the best things is that it is an activity that you can do at whatever pace you want to set. Why not give it a try?
