Work May Be the Best Place to Work Out

By Tom Herrin

Exercising is something that everyone needs but sometimes is neglected.  Many feel that, in order to do it right, they need to have a good workout with lots of movement.  Whether or not it is in a large class or at home with a headset and some kind of weights or jogging shoes, many people have a tendency to put too many requirements on their routine.  If they can't go all the way, they often feel that they should not go at all.  For those who sit all day as they work in some kind of office job, it is still possible to get a pretty good workout while sitting in that chair.  It just requires a good plan.

It May Give a Chance to Work the Hands

People who sit at their desk all day seldom do much to strengthen their hands.  It is possible to do a little to improve them while sitting if they take a few minutes.  A simple exercise is to make a fist.  They may or may not hold something.  Squeezing tightly, they can hold for five seconds and release and spread the fingers wide.  Doing this several times with each hand can provide a bit of a workout.

It May Help Work the Abs

Working the abs is difficult for many people.  It may seem as if they have to do all kinds of things in order to have any effect.  One of the major issues is that they have to be willing to follow some kind of a diet.  Exercise alone will not do it.  Once they are able to manage eating, some simple activities may be all it takes.  One of the simplest is to take a breath through the nose, tightening those muscles as they do.  Holding for a few seconds before releasing can do a little good.  Repeating this exercise about 12 to 15 times can provide a workout.

It May Help Achieve What You Want

The good thing about designing your own workout program is that it is yours.  It can be as personal as possible.  If there are specific areas you feel need work, you are likely to be able to develop an exercise for it.  I have tried several of the kinds of things mentioned with some success.  Isometrics have helped me to develop some areas I felt were in need and enjoyed good results.  Doing this while sitting can be a good way to go.
