Navigating Wind and Trees Can Promote Good Health
By Tom Herrin
There is a certain sense of freedom when people are outdoors. There is even more when they are able to feel that they can somehow deal with the elements that pose challenges for them. Exercise is usually a challenge due to the fact that people fail to make time for it, or they seem to fall short when it comes to getting themselves started. When they can begin in a more casual manner, they are more likely to become involved. A good way to exercise is to find a simple game that is physically low stress but can be fun. Disc golf is one that can be played by people of all ages with little skill requirements. The skills needed may be easily acquired with a little practice.
It Can Mean Steady Exercise
There are not a lot of difficult things to do to play the game. The walking will provide exercise that many people are missing in their daily routine. In playing a round, there is a good chance that people will walk a mile or more as they do so. Walking while doing something else at the same time adds a little challenge to the activity. It becomes slightly more exercise than walking alone. Some even choose to jog or run as they play to increase activity.
It Requires Patience
If someone is not a patient person by nature, playing a game such as this can help to develop this. Frustration will be easily found if one rushes or pushes too hard in this game. Patience must be exercised to find the right way to zero in on the given target. This is a quality that can carry over to family or work relations, improving them for everyone.
It Requires Some Mental Processing
Even though people may not realize it, you will use quite a few mental skills in playing a round of disc golf. You will have to factor the wind and angles. The obstacles on the course, such as trees, will challenge you to figure the best ways around them. As you play, you will develop some mental skills that you may have slept through in geometry class at school. Sharpening your mind while you exercise can help to contribute to better overall health that can help in your daily activities.
