All Bread Is Not Just Bread
By Tom Herrin
Sometimes it seems that food is food. In other words, it is something to eat but has little differences between one type of product and the same type in a different brand. Those of us who are a little more concerned about such things notice a bit more difference. In bread, history has taught us that there are some important nutrients that may cause health issues if they are lacking. It is believed that the use of highly processed flour years ago resulted in a much higher instance of colon cancer. In turn, there has been a much bigger push to include more fiber and other nutrients in manufactured bread. Fortunately for us as consumers, there are some really good products available today that may fit very well with our efforts to have better health.
Oat Bread
For those who have never tried oat bread, there are some pretty good ones out there. The name may make it sound bland to many who just don't have an appreciation for oats, but it is far from true. Oats have a great reputation for their properties of supporting lower bad cholesterol. They are also believed to help reduce the chance of some cancers. The bread is even more than that. It is higher in protein than many other kinds of bread. This makes it a pretty powerful bread.
Whole Grain Bread
Many of us have had whole wheat bread. Whole grain bread may be made from any of several kinds of grains besides just wheat. If this is truly whole grain, it will have plenty of fiber. Some kinds of this bread may be really good for those who struggle with sugar. They may have no sugar at all yet a fair amount of protein. Reading the labels is all it will take for you to confirm contents to be what you are looking for.
Healthy Bread Does Not Have to Lack Flavor
A lot of times, we assume that anything that is really healthy must not taste too good. This shouldn't be the case with bread. Read those labels to determine if it has what you are searching for in bread. Once you find that, try a loaf at a time. You will find the kind of healthy bread you feel fits your needs with a good flavor. It can be a fun trial they entire family can enjoy.
