3 Great Cardio Workouts That Don't Require Running
By Genevieve Cunningham
Running. For many people, running is a love-hate relationship. We know it’s good for us. We know we’re going to burn calories and probably lose weight. We know we should suck it up and go. But if we’re being honest, running is one of our least favorite ways to exercise. Sound familiar? Luckily, running isn’t a necessary component of a healthy lifestyle. If you hate running but need some cardio in your life, take a look at these three great workouts that may work instead.
Dance
Dancing is so much fun, and it’s an incredible workout, too! When you turn on some music and dance, you’re using your entire body to get fit. You’re using every muscle group and burning massive calories. But the best part is that you’re probably having so much fun, you don’t even realize how much work it is. If you want to get serious, find a local class of your choosing. Or if you’re more interested in having fun, turn up the music in your home and get busy.
Cycling
Cycling is an excellent workout for the lower half of the body. And it also burns massive calories, so it’s a true win-win for so many people. In today’s world, there are multiple ways to cycle. You could choose the old fashioned route and buy a regular bicycle. Then you can find a trail and start riding. Or if you prefer a controlled climate, check out a stationary bike at your local gym. If you’re up for a challenge, you can even check out your local cycling class. Classes like SoulCycle really challenge the body, but you get to do it in a fun and exciting way. It doesn’t matter which option you choose. Cycling can help you lose weight and get fit without ever having to run.
Aerobics
Aerobics isn’t for everyone, but if you can find a class that suits your personality, it’s actually a great way to get fit. Power pump, floor aerobics, step aerobics, water aerobics. You have multiple classes to choose from. Give one (or all!) a try to see what works for you. Over time, you’ll meet some friends in class, learn some great moves, and get your body moving toward better health.
It's totally possible to get in shape without running. And for many people, skipping the run means they'll actually stick with their workout program! Use these other great workouts to burn calories and get in shape, and you may find that exercise can be fun and effective all at the same time.
