3 Morning Choices That Affect Your Entire Day
By Genevieve Cunningham
The mornings are a crucial part of the day. For many of us, the mornings are about hitting the snooze, consuming tons of coffee, and reluctantly getting ready for the day. But does it have to be this way? Do we have to start our days in such a negative manner? And is it actually affecting our health? Chances are good that a bad start to the day is negatively impacting your health, your emotions, and your life in general. If you would like to change your day and make it more positive, take a look at these three choices that you make in the morning that have an impact on how your day unfolds.
Breakfast gets our metabolism revved up, provides us with energy, and sets the tone for the rest of the day -- or at least as far as diet is concerned. An unhealthy breakfast can actually spin us in the wrong direction. It can impair focus and deplete our energy reserves. It can make us exhausted or make us feel sick. The key? Choose a healthier breakfast to start your body and mind off in the right direction.
Wake Up Routine
Do you snooze? Most of us do. But research has shown time and again that snoozing actually makes us more tired when we finally wake up. If you want to have more energy and feel more refreshed, get up with the first alarm. Is this difficult? Yes! But once it becomes a habit, it's an easy switch to your morning routine that can have a positive impact on the rest of your day.
Too many people wake up and immediately reach for their phones, laptop, or other device. Is there anything inherently wrong with technology? Not necessarily. It actually makes many things in life much easier. But when we bombard our brain with the stress that technology brings -- and we do it first thing in the morning -- we're actually setting ourselves up for a more exhausting, more emotional, more stressful day. Instead, ignore technology for a few minutes first thing in the morning. Don't reach for the phone. Don't scroll through Facebook. Don't check your email or text messages. Enjoy a few minutes technology-free, and you may notice your stress decline on a daily basis.
The morning has a powerful impact on everything else in our day. And because it matters so much, we should start our day with good choices and good intentions. Use these three tips to help turn your mornings around, and you may find that your everyday life turns around in a positive way right along with it.
