3 Tips for Feeling Better About Life
By Genevieve Cunningham
It’s completely normal to feel down every now and again. We all have good days, and we all have bad days. There’s nothing wrong with that. But sometimes, it seems like the bad days are never-ending. When this happens to you, it can be frustrating. Fortunately, there are some things that you can do and some steps that you can take to feel better about both your situation and your life. If you’re feeling down and out, check out these three tips for beating the blues and feeling like yourself again.
Get Active
An active lifestyle is crucial for beating the blues. You have to be up, moving, and involved. If you’re not, get that way now! Join a class, a gym, or call up some friends or family. Do anything that makes you engaged in life. New hobbies are excellent for getting involved. And, this is a great way to try something new that you have an interest in. Take the opportunity to learn something new and beat the blues all at the same time.
Stop Social Media
Want to feel bad about life? Go ahead and stay on social media all day. This is one of the fastest ways to feel blue. Not only will you be dealing with your own frustrations, but now you’ll also be comparing your situation to everyone else’s life. And on social media, none of those lives are real. If you’re feeling down, take a little break from social media and see if you feel better. Chances are good that the break will clear your head and give you a chance to start over.
List What You Love
Some people say count your blessings, but this is the same thing. It’s all too easy to think about all of the things that are going wrong in life. Instead, take the opposite approach. Make a list of everything that is going right. Maybe you have a great family, awesome friends, or enough time in your day to enjoy an activity. Maybe you don’t love your job, but celebrate that you actually have one. Maybe it’s just that you woke up today when so many others didn’t. It might be hard at first, but find some good in your life, and your blues will dissipate.
Don’t worry too much if you’re feeling down. That’s really OK. Allow it to happen sometimes, but don’t let yourself wallow in it. When you can’t get back to normal, just give these tips a try. And of course, always reach out to a professional when you need help.
