When's the Last Time You Fell Down Really Hard?

By Sandy Schroeder

Winter can be a challenging time. The prospect of fracturing or breaking something is always a possibility in the midst of the snow and ice. When you and your family are out there every day, enjoying winter sports or just moving about, having good resources and practicing good safety measures counts.

That’s where The Joint Chiropractic clinic near you can help. The Joint’s doctors of chiropractic are trained to help people of all ages with immediate injuries and ongoing health, wellness and fitness issues.

Get to Know Your Chiropractor

Stopping by to get to know your chiropractor could be a proactive health step. Your chiropractor will want to know about your current pain issues, lifestyle, and health history. You will learn how the spine of your health may help to improve overall health, too.

A gentle targeted spinal adjustment can help evaluate the health of the spine, and may provide far-reaching relief for any aches and pains that you may have. It also often leads to an overall sense of well-being with better sleep, more energy, clearer thinking and less stress.

Weekly 15-minute spinal adjustments can help to keep you at your peak and provide a great wellness base as your chiropractor monitors your health and provides wellness coaching and winter sports safety tips.

Winter Sports Warmups

The American Chiropractic Association says warming up is critical to avoid injuries and get the most out of winter activities. It only takes 15 to 20 minutes to do a good workout to stay safe. As always, check in with your doctor before starting a new winter sport.

Squats for skiing – Stand with legs about 12 inches apart with knees over feet. Slowly bend knees and lower buttocks. Stand up straight again. Do 10 to 15 squats. Wear layers to go from indoors to outdoors.

Lunges for skating - Step forward with one foot. Let the back knee come down to the floor. Keep shoulders aligned over hips. Repeat with other foot.

Knee-to-chest stretches for sledding/tobogganing –The goal is to avoid compression injuries from bouncing over snow. Sit or lie on the back, pull knees to chest, hold for 30 seconds..

Wherever you and your family are this winter, stay ahead of the snow, ice and frigid temperatures, avoiding painful fractures, or muscle spasms, strains or tears.

Stop by The Joint Chiropractic to enlist some good support. Everything is simple at The Joint. Personal affordable healthcare plans require no insurance. Weekend and evening hours fit everyone’s schedule, and walk-in visits are welcome. No appointments are needed.
