Wise Ways to Keep Your Balance as A Mom

By Sandy Schroeder

Nobody tells you what life will really be like when you become a mom. I remember rounding up masks for visitors when my firstborn was due. No germs were going to reach that baby! In the ensuing commotion, I forgot all about the masks, and somehow, amazingly enough ,he did just fine.

As moms settle in, reality provides a flood of ups and downs, but one of the most important things may be keeping one's balance through all of the stages from toddlers to teens.

A good start to this is taking the time for routine chiropractic care. It's a bit like the instructions they give on a plane; when the oxygen mask drops down, put it on yourself and then your child, the theory being that you have to take care of yourself before you can take care of someone else. Chiropractic care helps your body be as immune as it can be, as flexible and strong as it can be, and work as optimally as it can be. So finding your local chiropractor at The Joint Chiropractic is a great first step toward being the super mom you want want to be.

MindandBodyGreen.com offered some other survival tips recently.

Forget about perfection - With young children, perfect table settings and beautifully prepared meals may take a backseat to survival. If you are bone tired and struggling to keep up with everything, just make sure, everybody is warm, fed and content, and always make time to be there when your kids and your spouse need you.

Always listen when they reach out - Real questions that are vitally important to them can pop up anywhere from breakfast to bedtime. When your child wants to know why someone doesn't like them, or why they were laughed at, take the time to talk about their feelings and help absorb some of the pain. You might talk about something that happened to you as a child, or suggest ways to forgive others.

Make room for kids' time - Being present with your kids in today's nonstop world can be tricky, but outsourcing routine stuff will help.  Review your expenses to see if you can use baby sitters for pick-up or drop-offs, use grocery delivery, or extra help with cleaning and laundry. An absolute find would be someone who can babysit, cook, clean and run errands.

Keep your phone in its place - Yes, or course, we all need the phone to coordinate all sorts of things, but once it is in hand it can soak up valuable time that could be going to your kids. Use it when you need to, but don't let it grab all of your attention. Make sure all phones are shut down at dinner time and shut them down an hour or two before bedtime if possible.

Create comfort and magic whenever you can - As kids move from one stage to another, you may spot things they really love, that favorite breakfast on Saturday morning, that special time with mom or dad to read at the end of the day, or that Sunday afternoon tradition of biking to the park all count as markers for kids telling them how special they are to you. You may have a busy schedule, travel some, or have outside work to do, but keeping a framework of good stuff in place will help your kids weather it all.

Most important of all, make sure they know you are there for them and you care. And remember, you must take care of yourself so that you can take care of your child, so don't forget about dropping in on The Joint Chiropractic to find a plan or package that suits your needs.
